Bowmaster Winter Storm Beta Update 0.2.1

Updates

Update Graphical UI Layout – Added hero icon with hero rank number next to health and mana bars. Shortened mana and health bars to make room (you’re hp and mana values are not affected).

‘Drag Anywhere’ pull string method allows people using the ‘Pull String’ shooting style to drag from anywhere on the screen (as long you don’t click a button). No need to change anything in the settings if you’re already using Pull String — You can now either click and drag from the green circle OR click and drag in an open area outside of the circle. The choice is yours as you play. The aiming indicators work basically the same and are relative to the hero’s point of view. This mode of shooting could be helpful to those that think the green circle is too restrictive when playing near the edge of the screen. Note: the bow power will max out when the green line on the hero no longer extends. The drag anywhere line (gray) is just a reference to help you adjust your angle and will be drawn from where you started your click to where your mouse is dragged to.

Note: Christmas decorations and ‘Save Christmas’ mode will remain active until next update. But don’t worry, the new game mode will be converted to something similar in the future. Until then, enjoy those last minute gifts!

    The new update is not playable for me…

    The opening (lost vectors) animation works, as well as the news update; the game main menu displays correctly. But the Profiles screen shows nothing but dark gray; Start game plays the opening video, then shows the blue and red hero status bars, settings and quit buttons, and nothing else but black. The settings button works, but not the quit button. Back to the main menu, credits, settings and news all work.

    I renamed my flash storage (.sol) file, and I was able to create a new hero, but than ran into the above issues.

        I’m using Firefox 3.6.13. Actually, the game now appears to work for me. When I found the game was working on another of my Firefox profiles, I was able to fix my main profile (by adding and removing extensions). Unfortunately, I was unable to find out exactly what caused the original problem.

        Weird. Sorry for raising an early alarm, but I’m sure nothing changed in my browser from when I ran the game last night and when I tried earlier today.

    No problems on Widows 7 w/ latest Firefox. Quick Question though. First think that happened was a Bounty mission. I got a Giant spider, and I killed it, and eggs popped out and hatched. The mission ended before I could kill the small spiders. Is this supposed to be this way? and does the larger spider appear in the other modes too?

    Just wondering. I’ll check in Chrome and IE later though.

      Yeah, the end-game condition is to just kill the mama spider. So the mission is accomplished and round ends when that happens. She doesn’t show up in other modes (yet).

    Not running into anything on Chrome either. Just found out IE is screwed, so nothing there. sorry.

    I will say that the trees do occasionally get annoying. Could you add an option to turn the foreground objects on and off, or make it so If you move the cursor over them, they become transparent? (Note: I have no Idea if this is possible. I can (barely) get by a bit in flash, and would love to see how this works in a .fla, but I’m still on CS4, and not very good at it, so not much hope for me there. My animating skills are limited to 3d movies.) and other arrows might be interesting or more upgrade arrows. Like a Earth storm where rocks fall out of the sky, or a Meteor arrow (requires 3 fire and 3 earth arrow ranks) That summons a meteor, or upgrades to meteors. Just thoughts though. email me if you like them or need some explaining. (If you need email, let me know, but I’d think that, since this is your site, you can see our emails)

      Thanks for checking in other browsers. Making a toggle for foreground objects sounds like a good compromise. I may add this to the settings. And I could do something to make the foreground objects translucent when you mouse over them or something like that. Toggle option might be less work though :)

    Oh, i just had i thought one a possible option for aiming, you could have a faint or dotted line that shows the arrows path, i think the could be useful say, if you where trying to put a pierce arrow through i load of ememys on a slope or shooting down a dragon ( note that this would be an option and should be able to be turned off )

      Hey, Another idea. Maybe you could have a unit or a arrow that can heal buildings. I can’t tell you how annoying it is to try to put out a fire on a building and destroy it in doing so.

    Hi all! I have a little problem with the frame rate..In the begining the test screen shows me that my comp can sustain the highest settings but when playing is like 3-4fps for one moment and then jumps to 40 fps then comeback to 3-4 so on and on!!! (i.e. an arrow cooldown that normally takes 2 sec it takes 5 to me) the weirdest part is that all other flash goes well including bow master prelude. I have latest flash player idk why now I have 3-4 fps next moment 30 to 40 fps… If anyone had simillar problem please tell me what u did to fix!!! P.S. Is there a connection between the flash framework size(2000×1000) and my screen resolution (1024×768)?

      I am also curious if anyone else has had issues with game performance. As for the graphics performance test in the profile creation wizard, I may need to tweak that to do a better job of determining what the recommended setting should be — I think it over estimates right now. Try setting the quality setting down to Medium to see if that helps. Also, if you reduce the size of the game window it will also improve performance.

        Sometimes it goes down, but not as far as Tobias says, For me it goes from 30 to like 20 then back up after the group i tried to kill with a powerful arrow.

        I don’t think profile creation wizard overestimates my config I have an AMD Athlon64 2.4 GHz Single core, EVGA 7950 GX2 and 512 RAM… Itried the low settings and still the same problem…I suppose is an old config but still the CPU is 99-100 %.. and on other games including first bowmaster or any other flash games so far works flawless max 40%… Now I am sure u did your best and since I am the only one who has this problem (maybe CarnageX has something simillar!! ) u assume i am in trouble..and I DK why is only with this game!! Why I have more than than 38fps now and next moment is like 2. One more thing if i let the game runs by himself without interferring (i.e. i don’t shoot, i don’t move, not pressing a single button ,the animation ex. cauldron fire or smoke from house works like 50 60 fps ) for more seconds…the moment i try to shoot everything is is like freezed… I tried the zoom in feature to the maxxx until i have a man head 1024×768 and zoom out too the whole window is 320×240 (the game has more than 50 for sure until i start to shoot)…I installed new shockwave player and flash player..IDK why is that… BTW the game rocks. Never thought this about a flash game!!

        Yes, i had only 8-10 fps when there were much units on the screen…With the lowest quality. But i think it’s because i’d have an too old PC.
        CPU: amd athlon 2500+
        Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 512 mb
        Ram – 1 gigabyte
        And…I downloaded a game from your library and opened it with Adobe flash professional CS5. I changed the frame rate to maximum (120 fps) and the perfomance increased greatly… 😀
        The game is called “Space combat training”, i downloaded it from one of your pages, i don’t remember…

    Fantastic game, though I am prone to playing too much.

    Foreground tree toggle would be a nice option, sometimes people are completely hidden from sight.

    I often find that the last 5-8 enemy units take their sweet time appearing. Not sure if this is intended or not, but I would prefer to ‘splode them straight away.

    A guide to the controls would be a helpful addition also, I struggled with mage unit boss for a long time before figuring how to manage or avoid the balls of doom.

    Anyway, thanks for your hard work, you rock.

  11. Hi Jason,

    Please add some more types of soldiers to buy as upgrades for this Friday’s update. Also you could make the archers fire others types of arrows as well as the basic arrows. You could make a giant boss, a huge gigantic scythe warrior. Please add this on this Friday’s update! This would be awesome!

    I play your game too much. I’m approaching level 400 now.

    I’ve put some thought into it and decided the thing I’d most like to see is buttons to control your men.

    Advance, Halt and Retreat would be a good start.

    Anything more complex very welcome.

    Slight issue with the Units. They always seem to go to the right when your house is in the middle. This makes it very hard to get the presents on the LEFT side of the house. The only way I’ve figured out is to wait till there’s an enemy unit on the left, then kill all the ones on the right (these seem to have more importance than the left ones) And wait as the enemy whittles away at my units for someone to grab the presents. If you could fix this, that would be awesome.

      Just noticed another one. When the units are stopped at the edge of the screen, Enemy units can pass right by. Happened to me at the right side, one of the acid spitting things (i have no Idea what to call them) walked by about 5 grunts.

        Update on the first one. They always make the right their priority. This makes it rather annoying when the enemies are coming ONLY from the left. Quite annoying.

        Also, I’ve seen Dragons be flying one way and shoot a fireball almost straight behind them. Doesn’t seem intentional, but I don’t know.

      Ok, so the grunts and archers seem to be the inly ones to be affect by the attraction to the right side of the screen. But I don’t have pikemen, shielded grunts, or a trebuchet (simply because I really don’t care for them, except the trebuchet) Also, It’s rather hard to get the wolf and catapult out because it keeps spawning grunts and archers. (I rather like them, because the wolf is faster, and the catapult has the range. )

    Quick question. On the chain lightning arrow, How does it work? Is it just an arrow that will jump infinitely as long as it has an enemy to jump to? Or does it have a max number of jumps?

    Also, a way to cancel the Archer Volley/Catapult strike/Trebuchet strike Cursors.
