Bowmaster Winter Storm Beta Update 0.1.0.12

The source of the spider infestation has been spotted! A Queen Spider lurks in the woods laying vile eggs that spawn various new types of spiders. Previously we have only seen the suicide spiders. Scouts report that there are two new kinds. The black spiders now engage in melee combat. Green spiders are suicidal and explode when near their target. Orange spiders have been known to jump. All spiders except the queen will eventually explode so keep your distance! There is a hefty bounty for whomever returns a piece of the Queen Spider’s carapace as proof of her death. Approach with extreme caution!

Scouts also report that various other wanted villains have increased in difficulty, gaining new abilities. Be cautious of new tactics when encountering one on one battles with these wanted villains.

      I dont know if this bug was in the last build and someone mentioned it, but sometimes if you interupt a fireball a flame sticks in the air. If you need a picture i got one. I wish it would of came up with an error so it would be easier to fix ahahah

          You can change that your self by click on the page then hit ctrl and use your scroll wheel to make the webpage bigger or smaller. Or change your resolution size. How big is your monitor? 14″, 15″?

      There’s a chance the Queen Spider will show up in OneVsOne boss encounters and an even rarer chance that she will show up in normal battle. Also now every 10 levels is a boss battle no matter what. That means if you loose the battle and hit restart you will be given a new boss to fight. You won’t always fight the same type of villain twice but you will have to fight one.

        Well thats good lol I was kinda worried about the Queen showing up a lot, cause of the amount of monsters I already face in the 150’s+. I like the new Boss fight system, although sometimes it came in handy to face 3 Bosses back to back on random, I got a butt load of money that way.

        Well I’ll keep playing, looking for anything thats out of place. Gotta go to my scripting class…..Later

          Solo 1v1 battles vs elite units still occur on random levels, but it is forced on every 10th level. So for example on level 13 you may get a 1v1 battle, or a defend your home. But on level 20, you’ll always get some form of 1v1 battle but the unit you fight will be random… one of those units is the Spider Queen. Hope that clarifies things. Also, this “elite unit every 10 levels” is experimental as are a lot of things in this beta.

            dont we have that issue already? though, i wish there werent caps on mana recharge rate for instance. (or better yet, remove damage caps for destructor and mana caps for mage, and maybe allow an increased firing speed for hunter)

      I’ll be looking into recent reported issues. One you may have noticed is that the hp is different than before… I flipped a switch in my code to fix one issue, but it impacted the hp system for allied units. By design, you’re units are supposed to be inherently weaker than the enemy counterparts… but I haven’t balanced the hp vars for the allies. The bug I “fixed” was that the hp values for allies were actually being drawn from the enemy hp config vars. So both enemy and allies would be set with roughly the same values for the same types of units (when ranks are equal). Anyway, since you noticed this transition without me actually announcing it, it means I probably have to go look at the ally hp numbers. I just didn’t have time to this week with all the spiders scurrying about… I swear, when I was animating the spiders I kept feeling as if spiders were crawling on my leg.

      So in summary, I will be prioritize re-balancing and bug fixes for next week’s update. But I’ll probably have some fun new content as well. It took my just a little time this morning to overhaul the “boss” unit behavior to make things a little more interesting. There’s a lot of easy-to-develop yet high-value features that I plan on developing real soon.

    Another thing you could make as well is when catapult’s and trebuchet’s projectiles smash structures like castles and things, you could make the structures crumble where it’s been damaged, to make it look more realistic, and bits could fall on any troops below and hurt them badly to make it more realistic.

    |Arrows|
    Mole Mod: a modification to arrows that allows them to go through terrain (have you ever played Gunbound and used the nak? its shots travel underground and come back up then explode. this mod added to a bomb arrow would do the same thing maybe?)

    Sonic Arrow: an arrow in the wind category. it travels lightning fast and may knock enemies back slightly, will knock pest dragons out of the air indefinatly and may knock bigger ones out too. this arrow travels like a sonic wave, the further it goes the less effective it is.

    Remote Bomb Mod: a mod for the bomb arrows, this mod allows you to detonate the bomb arrow at any time. the bomb arrow will stick to enemies. smarter and more mobile enemies like the ninja may grab the arrow and attempt to throw it away.

    |Allied units|
    |Unit upgrade branch(?)| Each unit should be able to upgrade into a different branch, individualy. so you have the basic units like the archer and grunt, and catapault. then you can upgrade these individual units into higher classes in their area, EX: Grunt -> Dual Bladesman. Archer -> Longbowman. Catapault -> Cannon. So you purchase a few of the indivdual units, then you upgrade them all individualy.

    Pikeman:(already have)
    Dual Blader/Swordsman: Typical knight/grunt with two blades or swords, focused on pure killing.
    Reaper: Advanced units wth large sickle bladed, Extremely deadly units and have a life-drain spell.*PIKEMAN BRANCH
    Lancer: Advanced units with large Lances and shields. The perfect guard type unit. a hefty load of hp and decent attack range.*SHIELDED KNIGHT/GRUNT BRANCH
    Warhammer/Broadsword Knight/Grunt: a unit with a huge hammer/sword, capable of knocking back enemies or simply cleave them in half.*DUAL BLADER/SWORDSMAN BRANCH

    |Archer|
    Longbowman: an archer with a longer bow, they shoot slower but arrows fly faster and further dealing more damage.
    Composite Bowman: an archer with a composite bow. arrows fire from these fly pretty damn fast and somewhat far, not too slow to load.
    Shortbowman: an archer with your everyday shortbow, they shoot less far than longbows and composite bows but they load their bows quickly.
    Crossbowman:an archer with a crossbow, loads VERY quickly but lange is limited, a little bit shorter than shortbows.
    X Bowman: Advanced archer with two shortbows merged together to form an X shape, the arrows fly twice as far and deal a slight bit more damage than an average archer, *SHORTBOWMAN BRANCH.
    Shieldbowman: Advanced archer with a composite bow modified with a shield attached, minimizes frontal damage but is slower than usual.*COMPOSITE BOW BRANCH.
    Gods Eye: Advanced archer with an Extremely efficient longbow, fires just as far as you yourself can at full. deals quite a bit of damage, but loads very slowly. a squad of these is hell for those pesky flyers.*LONGBOWMAN BRANCH.
    Dual Crossbowman: Advanced archer with two short crossbows, way faster than your average archer but has shortest range. has a quick firerate and fires two bolts at once.*CROSSBOWMAN BRANCH.

    Catapault:(already have)
    Trebuchet:(already have)
    Ballista: Giant crossbow that fire a massive bolt at the enemies.
    Cannon:Powerfull bombs fired at the enemies. may knock some enemies back.*CATAPAULT BRANCH.
    Giga Flinga(lol idk couldnt think of any names): a giant slingshot fires massive spikes at the enemies like a shotgun.*TREBUCHET BRANCH.
    Chain Ballista: a ballista modified to fire massive bolts more rapidly.*BALLISTA BRANCH.

    This is just an idea/example of how the units could work. though this would require a giant remodel of the units i bet.

    I think that you should get rid of that Mana thing, because sometime it doesn’t let you fire anything at all.
    I noticed that my troops just die all the time at the least thing, and yet the evil army’s troops are harder to kill

    It would be awesome if you could purchase a skill that acted like the mage’s shield. You could activate it by clicking the icon, and would take a certain amount of damaga before breaking. Upgrading it would give it more “health” and maybe change the range.

    I think having mana is okay, but it needs 2 or 3 more upgrades to its regen rate.

    As for troops I was thinking about it, and I came up with a few ways to have upgrades for individual troops.

    (All percents are total and do not stack)

    -Damage:
    +20% +40% +60% +80% +100%
    (2x Damage may seem like a lot, but I’ve seen 5 grunts fall to basic soldier, who ended up with about 1/2 his health in the end, also these could be somewhat pricey)

    |Shielded Grunt|
    Movement Speed
    +20% +40% +60% +80% +100%
    (It seriously takes a shielded grunt about 5 minutes to get across the screen)

    -Health

    (Shielded grunts seem to be mainly used as meat-shields and distractions, therefore very large health capacity would be helpful to them, these upgrades should be costly)

    -Resistance to poison, fire, and ice

    (I don’t know if you can do this, but I often have my shielded grunts die by fire and poison blobs, just because they are on them for long periods of time, therefore I think reduced damage would be helpful)

    (Let’s face it, archers do practically no damage at all. Expect this to cost a lot)

    -Arrow Types (Archers shoot additional types of arrows)

    (Especially the later upgrades of this would cost a lot, archer bombs would not be very powerful, the effectiveness of these arrows depends on the archers’ damage level)

    (Later upgrades increase the number of flames released. You could make it 1,2,3,4,5 or 3,4,5,6,7 if you want. I don’t know if you can actually increase the damage of the fire, if you can’t then just go 3,4,5,6,7 flames)

    (I don’t know much about flash programming, so I have no Idea how hard this would be to do, but I think it would be very helpful and interesting.)

        I dont know if you read all of what i wrote, but i wasnt yelling or even being disrepectful. ANd your right, you did use the same format of that guy and i apollogize if i affended you. so since i got you confused with the other guy coming off strong wouldnt apply to you.

        And im not not saying dont give suggestions. But that other guy whatever his name is, i cant remember has a whole list of ideas practially everyother day. If he spread them out over, i dont know, every release or so.       I like getting suggestions. No one should discourage anyone from giving them. Only I know how the game is programmed and how hard it might be to implement suggested features. Some features may sound difficult to program but aren’t, while others may seem simple but are actually quite challenging to program. Either way, as long as people understand that whatever suggestions they provide I may or may not be able to implement them.

      Suggestions are good because even if I don’t always use them exactly as suggested, they may often give me a new idea that might not even be directly related.

      @CarnageX – I commend you for stating you weren’t trying to be mean with your response to Devonushka.

      @Devonushka – Thanks for all of your suggestions. I know you, as well as everyone else that provides a lot of suggestions, just want this game to be the best it can be.

    Sorry to bother you but I’m geting a glitch when I load up the game. When the game loads up I get the “Bowmaster Winter Storm Beta” title but a fraction of a second into the title image this other title with orange font and a white mask appears for a farcion of a second. Is this the final title image, an old one or a glitch?

    I like the effects with some physics,
    like shooting at a projectile and such things..
    Work more around the sounds…(example): The spider provides no ‘aah’ or ‘aaargh’, but somethin’ else..
    And put more physics in this game, it’s really the one of the best reasons i like this game so much.

    I was thinking over some ideas that would be cool to emplement in the game. One idea I really liked and kept coming back to was having a pet along with you on your adventure.(purchased in the upgrade section maybe?) that is an independent MELEE unit. And this pet (cat, dog, falcon, whatever) levels up like the character does (exp from each kill the pet gets) reaching a max level at some early point (like 10-20). I just thought it would be cool if the main character had a steady compaion while fighting evil.
    Anyways its just an idea but I think it would be cool in game.:P What do you guys think?

    My troops just die all of the time when they get hit, whereas the evil army troops are harder to kill, they don’t get affected by catapults and trebuchets or anything, not to be nasty or anything, but it seems to me that the evil army has the winning cards all along, this game seems very unfair, they have got an unfair advantage over my troops. Also their trebuchets and catapults are a lot stronger than my ones and so too are the rest of their troops. I understand it has to be a challenge, because otherwise if it was very easy, you would get fed up in the end, but this is just unfair how they get more troops than I do, like they get about 4 or so catapults and trebuchets at once the same with other troops of theirs as well, whereas we only get one trebuchet and catapult at a time, those lot have got a real unfair advantage over my troops, it’s really unfair. I’m not being nasty, but I was thinking you could make the two sides equal so that it is fair.

      Not to be rude but the ally units get one major advantage over the evil troops… YOU!!! Not only does your character have a ton of health when fully upgraded, but a multitued of spells, arrows and allys. If you wanted to make both sides fair maybe the evil units should be equivalent to yours but also have a hero of their own?

      Yeah, Fox has the right idea. Your hero unit is the big game changer. But what you’re probably noticing is the hp-bug that got into the last update which makes all of your units have less hp than normal. I’ll be fixing this in the next update, but things will never be exactly equal.

      Since I got criticized for this earlier… I too am not being mean… But I just wanted to say that even without the HP glitch I believe the troops are a bit too weak… This is mostly in the multidirectional levels, where your castle or village in the middle. It seems like you’re fighting a war against and army while your army just sits their and twiddles its thumbs. (I’m talking about like level 70 btw) Anyway, I just think that it’s a bit overwhelming and annoying, since at this point I focus 90% of my time on killing dragons before they can quickly eliminate my castle or houses. Just something to think about.

    With the trebuchet and catapult death animation, when you smash them sometimes, thet spin round and go up in the air, is that meant to happen? Because it doesn’t seem to be realistic.

      Its ok, I do it somethings to but they are maybe an hour or 2 apart. Just try to remember if theres anything else before you hit “Sumbit Comment” and all should be forgiven 😀

    Hey Jason,
    I’ve noticed that some of the elements are a lot weaker than others (especaly light and dark elements). I don’t know if this is because they don’t have a elemental effect, special attack of their own, or both. I honestly don’t think half of the elemental arrows are worth what you pay for them.

      Not yet they aren’t, the game is still under contruction. Most people use the generic elements anyway. Im sure he will add more to those, but the generic are probably going to be leading the way for all the other. So if you be patient and stick with Jason im sure you will be satisfied 😀

    The fire arrow’s stat is 8 on FIRE, shouldn’t it be 80 like all the other elemental arrows?
